Check Your Tire Pressure Regularly
Make sure your tires are properly inflated, as under-inflated tires can lead to premature wear, reduced fuel efficiency, and even blowouts. The correct tire pressure can usually be found on the driver’s door jamb or in your owner’s manual. The number listed on the tire itself is not the recommended pressure. Keeping your tires at the proper level helps them last longer and improves overall performance.

Monitor Coolant Levels
Your vehicle’s coolant should be checked monthly. Most vehicles have a plastic reservoir with “Min” and “Max” or “Low” and “High” markings. The coolant level should stay within this range. If it is low, add a 50/50 mix of coolant and water. If the reservoir is empty, coolant may need to be added directly to the radiator. Never remove the radiator cap while the engine is hot. The best time to check coolant is when the vehicle is cold, such as before starting it in the morning.

Inspect Belts, Hoses & Look for Leaks
Take a moment to look under the hood and on the ground where your vehicle is parked. Cracks in belts, worn hoses, or visible leaks can be early signs of a problem. When the engine is cool, you can gently squeeze hoses to check for soft spots, which may indicate internal wear. Catching these issues early can help prevent unexpected breakdowns, especially on longer trips.

Fuel Up Smart in Warmer Months
During the summer, consider filling your fuel tank in the morning. Fuel stored underground is cooler earlier in the day, which can provide slightly better efficiency. While the savings are small, every bit helps over time.

Prepare for Cold Weather
Before winter arrives, switch to a winter-grade windshield washer fluid. This helps prevent freezing and keeps your windshield clear in colder temperatures. It is a good idea to make the switch about 30 days before freezing conditions begin to ensure your system is fully protected.
